vincent cassel and little white lies

little white lies is a UK film magazine that is different to any other out there.  each issue is themed around a new release and then beautifully designed and illustrated inkeeping with that theme.  reading each issue gets me excited about film and generally inspires me (i’m pleased to say i’ve been a subscriber for the last 3 years).  this year they’ve set a number of creative briefs; creative film-based challenges with varying long and short deadlines.  their most recent brief was to draw a french cinema icon.  i chose to draw vincent cassel – recently well-known for his role in black swan (you should also check out mesrine parts 1 and 2).  when i saw black swan i was drawn to his facial features (especially in profile), and thought they would be great to draw.  i stored that project, and this creative brief was the perfect excuse to get round to it.  this actually turned out to be a real tough one, and i usually consider myself pretty good with portraits (!)  sadly i wasn’t successful in being selected for the final 15 in their competition, but they have showcased all the entries in an album on their facebook page. check it out.  there’s some super work on there (and here’s a link to mine!)
